The nettle is a highly beneficial plant for detoxification. It is found in many rural areas and is often used in traditional remedies.
Nettle Is Underrated
There are two types of nettle: the common nettle (Urtica dioica) and the small nettle, also known as the stinging nettle (Urtica urens). Both types are simple, virtuous plants that have been listed in the French Pharmacopoeia since 1818. The nettle has a large stem with serrated, dark green leaves that are covered in tiny hairs containing formic acid.
Nettle Health Benefits
In terms of composition, nettle contains formic acid, acetic acid, gallic acid, folic acid, chlorophyll, beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lutein, lycopene, vitamin C, vitamins B2, B5, and B9, silica, mucilage, tannins, and minerals such as iron, sulfur, potassium, magnesium, copper, zinc, and calcium.
Nettle Has Many Uses
Nettle has been used internally and externally for ages. Nettle water has been used to wash hair and nettle leaves have been used in Finnish sauna tradition to remove pains from the body.
Nettle is an excellent help in the garden. Nettle water is a natural way to repel bugs.
In cooking, nettle can be used like spinach. It is suitable for cooking, pancakes, eggs, savory pies and buns. The most well-known use of nettle in cooking is the nettle soup, being a part of the culinary traditions of many regions. Nettle soup can be made with young nettle shoots alone or in combination with other vegetables, such as potatoes, watercress, sorrel, spinach, or pumpkin.
Nettle is also an old ecological fibre plant, whose use in the textile industry has been revived.
Nettle pampers the skin and is therefore used in cosmetics.
Nettle is a powerful purifier that cleanses the body. It is also a strong diuretic, aiding in the functioning of the kidneys and the elimination of toxins. Additionally, it promotes the secretion of bile by the liver and has anti-inflammatory properties. Nettle may also be helpful in reducing cellulite and has been used as a treatment for bedwetting in children.
